If you are thinking of becoming a chef, you will want to consider attending a cooking school. Many people are successful chefs just through on the job training but attending one of the more prestigious cooking schools will certainly give you an advantage.

It will be best to research cooking schools on the Internet. That will be easy and if they do not list all the information you need, you can always email them to ask questions. Among the things you should consider are the cooking schools programs, facilities, location, housing, climate, activities, and culture of the area. All these will have a great effect on your education. You will want to investigate cooking schools that offer a variety of subjects such as the history, evolution and diversity of culinary arts. Ask about the size of the classes (smaller is better for individual instruction), how modern their facilities are and the qualifications of their chef instructors.

Many cooking schools, such as the California Culinary Academy (CCA) offer associate degrees and certificates. CCA offers an Associate of Occupational Studies and a Certificate in Baking and Pastry Arts. Their curriculum takes a global look at all cuisines. That is an important thing to know when researching cooking schools. If you have already decided on a certain type of cuisine you want to specialize in, it is important to find out if the cooking school can cater to that need. But, if you don’t know or don’t want to specialize in any one cooking field, cooking schools that offer a wide variety of cooking styles would be a good match for you.

Regardless of which of the many cooking schools you choose, you will learn very valuable skills. With a degree or certificate from a cooking school, you may find employment at any number of places including restaurants, schools, resorts, hotels, and cruise ships.
